I did it! No fried food for a month!

In the beginning of November I decided to do a no fried food challenge for the month of November.

I'm here to tell you I did it! I survived and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I did have french fries last night to break my "fast". I'm going to try to keep the fried food to a minimum but I'm happy that I made it for the month. I think knowing that it was only for a month helped. I knew there was a french fry waiting for me at the end of the tunnel.

I think now I'm going to only allow myself one fried item a week. Once a week is cutting back from my normal intake of all time. Yes, it's bad, might as well face it I'm addicted to fries.

Updated to add (thanks to Joeh for pointing this out): My weight stayed about the same which I think is good considering Thanksgiving and not being as active as I should have been. I notice that not eating fried foods helps me not feel so gross after eating. No shock there. I'll try to update again in a month with how things are going. Can I limit myself or will I fall back into old ways?

Friday night couch recovery

I am exhausted. Last night Derek and I went to Sidebar to celebrate my former roommate Todd's birthday. $7 pitchers of Bud Light and delicious curly fries were consumed. I woke up this morning feeling very tired and briefly thought it was Saturday and thought I could just roll over and go back to sleep. I quickly realized it was not Saturday and dragged myself out of bed.

It was a long day at work but I made it through. The other assistants and I have been eating lunch in the food court lately. It's great for people watching and gets us out of the crowded lunchroom. There was a convention nearby that involved many teens dressing like "business professionals". Apparently "business professional" to teenage girls means heels you can't walk in and the shortest dress or skirt possible. I wore some pretty questionable things in my teens so I can't judge too harshly.

Here's what "business professional" should look like in case you were curious.

Despite being tired I decided to walk home from work today. I felt a little guilty after the fries and beer last night and I knew the second I got home I wouldn't want to exercise. I'll be spending the rest of my Friday night on the couch.

Day 12 of no french fries or potato chips. Hold me!

I'm on day 12 of 30 days of no french fries or potato chips. Every day it gets a little easier. There's still the temptation - the co-worker who eats Cape Cod chips with her sandwich, the table next to me at a restaurant who orders a burger with golden truffle fries. I must stay strong and not let the sound of a potato chip crunching or that delicious freshly fried french fry smell lead me astray. I say NO to your salty deliciousness!

What really keeps me going is the bet I have with Derek. He thinks I can't stay off the chips and fries for 30 days. And also God because I think that's what you're supposed to say at the end of a speech like this. I imagine him watching over my shoulder and patting me on the back every time I pass up a chip or fry. "That's my girl G. That's my girl...."

Good friends and good fries.

I had a very fun Saturday night filled with good beer and good friends. And let's not forget the truffle fries. I do love my truffle fries.

Derek met my cousin Alexis' fiancé. I overheard Kevin say "let me tell you a thing or two about dating a Stanton woman." All good things right?

Sad the weekend is over but it can't be party time USA followed by lazy Sunday all the time.
