On social media and sharing your personal life in your 30s

I've noticed a subtle shift in my social media habits recently. I haven't been sharing as much personal information as I used to. I look back at some of my older blog posts or even my very old LiveJournal (RIP) and cringe. Why did I feel the need to share so much? I'm glad social media wasn't really around when I was in high school. God only knows what I would have been sharing. If we ever have children you can bet I will be watching their social media like a hawk.

Snapchat recently launched a Snap Map feature. People can now see where you are down to the street address. I might have thought this was a neat feature a few years ago when I shared everything but now I find it a bit creepy. No one needs to see where I am at all times or how often I'm at Wholefoods.

I still share my life via social media but now I'm more selective of what I post. I'm more aware of how what I post could be perceived by others. Knowing some people at work were discussing my instagram certainly has made me think twice about what photos I share.

I don't regret how open I was in my 20s on my blog and social media but I'm perfectly happy keeping some things private now.

  2. There are SO many opportunities to overshare! The snapchat map feature is concerning.
I'm also happy social media wasn't around when I was in high school *cringe*
What is it you're not telling us? ;)

    1. That is a good point. There are so many opportunities to overshare. It's almost hard not to.

  3. My daughter recently showed me the Snap Map feature. I definitely did a nope on that one. I don't share a lot on social media. My blog is actually the place I share the most. I do like instagram but I'm very selective on what I post on that also. People actually have to talk to me to know much about me. I like it that way.

    1. I share the most on my blog too but I figure a blog is where you do share a little extra.
