Weekend Report: I'm being very productive.

The weekend flew by. How is it already Sunday?

Weekend report:

Friday I went over to Lil Anne's house and we had some wine and chatted. Fiona showed up and we watched a pretty awful movie call the Lazarus Effect. We wanted something scary and we got something meh. Not even Evan Peters could save this movie.

Saturday we went to the Social in Newton with a few friends. This was only our second time there but I really like the place. Not overly crowded and the food is good. We'll have to go there more often.

We ended the night with one drink at the Last Drop. Derek was a trooper because he hates that bar. Went to bed at 3:30 but somehow I was up around 10:30 with no hangover. I started doing laundry and dishes and made myself a delicious breakfast burrito with eggs, goat cheese and spinach. Yum. Derek was having a rougher morning and was like "what is wrong with you!" I also made a quinoa salad. I'm on a roll today.

I added some photos to my photo blog if anyone is interested. I take a lot of random pictures with my phone and then I don't want to delete them, so I now post them on the photo blog so I can clear out the photos on my phone.

Our venue is already pretty much the best

Yesterday we took Derek's parents out to dinner at the restaurant where we'll be getting married next May. I sent an email to let them know we would be poking around and they made a reservation for us. Boy did they treat us good. They gave us two free appetizers on the house (including mussels) and two deserts. I originally sent the appetizers back because we didn't order them but then they came over and told us they were complimentary. Well then, set those babies right down on the table here. Also, they were great with a food allergy in our dining party.

The food was good and I'm excited that this is our venue.

After dinner I wanted to try to find the spiral staircase that I've seen in wedding photos of the venue. Derek's father found it pretty quickly. I would post a photo here on the blog but since they're all wedding photos I don't want to step on any professional photographers toes by posting their photos. Here's a link to a photo though. Is it silly to be excited to take a photo somewhere? I mean come on it just looks so pretty!

I had a dream last night that I showed up to the wedding without a dress and then all these guests that we did not invite started showing up. One was dressed like she was about to get on a pole in a strip club and I was not pleased. Then I really freaked out when we realized we didn't have wedding rings. We ran over to a market to try to find rings but all they had were these stretchy rings so we just bought them. By the time we got back most of the guests had left but we still got married. I was upset that nothing had gone to plan. Even in your sleep that anxiety can sneak up on you. I know the wedding will be fine. I'm a big planner so there is no way I would "forget" about the rings for the wedding day but if I could not have anymore dreams like that, that would be great.

New chapeau

I'm very excited about my new hat.

Ok that is not a very good excited face but I was concentrating on taking a selfie.

I've been saying for a while that I want a PBR hat. I thought it would be funny and well I don't have any hats. Fiona decided to take matters into her own hipster hands and actually bought me the hat. I shall treasure it always.

I'm sweating just looking at these photos. It was so humid last night. I never signed up to live in a swamp.

Now I'm relaxing in the AC watching Obama's speech at the DNC while blasting out this blogpost. I'm going to miss having him as our president.

I saw the new Ghostbusters and I liked it

I think I have eczema on my foot. Lovely, I know. Seems to be a summer tradition at this point. I couldn't find anything to put it on it so I used the spray I have for the cat. I'll let you know if I start growing whiskers.

Derek and I saw the new Ghostbusters with Fiona after work. I thought it was pretty good. Definitely had some laugh out loud moments. I recognized a few spots in Boston which was fun. Most of the movie was filmed here despite being set in NYC. The movie should have just been set in Boston.

I loved Kate McKinnon but that's nothing new.

The outcry over this movie has been a little ridiculous. The original still exists and is a classic. Feel free to watch it any time. Don't we have more important things to complain about? Like this never ending heat!

We had a visitor

I think I'm ready for fall now. It's been fun summer but this heat has got to go. Can we bring it down to the 70s for a day or two?

Derek's friend Paul came to visit from New York yesterday. He's in the navy and just moved back from Hawaii. We started out at City Side then took the bus to Davis Square to go to Underbones and then Sligo. It took two naps today to kick that hangover to the curb.

Back to the grind tomorrow.

My Chemical Romance is back! Maybe? We'll find out in September.

There's something you should know about me. I listen to a lot of pop punk and "emo" music. The early 2000s were a great time in music for me. One of my favorite bands from that era is My Chemical Romance. I discovered them in high school and have been a fan ever since. They split in 2013 and I was a bit sad but what can you do? Then yesterday the band released this teaser.

Well now I have my hopes up! The opening piano is from one of their more well known songs, Welcome to the Black Parade. In October it will have been 10 years since the release of The Black Parade album. They better be doing at least a reunion tour. If they could also put out a new album that would be great.

Time to bust out that eyeliner and black hair dye!

Commuting All Star

I'm available for a campaign Converse. My commuting shoe of choice since 2006.

Hot time summer in the city

It's been HOT here in Boston this weekend. I've mostly been hiding out in the AC reading but I did manage to make it out of the house a little but. Can't hide inside all day just because it's hot.

Last night we met up with Germana and Andy for dinner and drinks at Lulu's in Allston.

I love a good fruity beer when it's hot. This Wachusett Blueberry hit the spot.

I've been to Lulu's a few times now and every single time I've gotten the fried chicken. It's so good! Next time I need to order something different, mix it up. I'm sure I'll find another dish I love.

On the way home I was playing Pokémon GO and I caught a ton of new Pokémon.

Not an impressive catch but I hadn't caught a Seaking yet. The Harvard Ave. area of Allston is a Pokémon hot spot.

I've seen quite a few people complaining about Pokémon GO and calling it lame. It's not for everyone but there's no reason to rain on the parade of people who enjoy it. It's getting people out of the house and interacting which are good things. It's even increasing sales at small businesses. One complaint I do agree with though is going on private property to catch a Pokémon. Don't do it!

It was a tiny bit cooler today so I decided to go for a walk around the local Reservoir.

This cluster of rocks is always packed with birds. I even saw two swans and a heron on my walk.

Now it's time to cool off and watch some Penny Dreadful on Netflix.

Secret's in the sauce

If you're gonna make a burger you gotta make it right. Salt, pepper, onion and Worcestershire sauce.

Add more Worcestershire sauce as they cook. So good! Trust me on this.

Back from Florida

It was a great trip. It was a HOT trip. I'm glad to be home but also miss my brother and his family.

I almost missed my flight down to Florida. My alarm did not go off and so I woke up a half hour after the cab was scheduled to pick me up. Full on Home Alone "WE SLEPT IN!" panic ensued and I finished packing in record time.

Luckily I live in a city so it's pretty easy to call for another cab. My mother was freaking out at the airport waiting for me. We made the flight though and I didn't leave a child behind so it's all good.

Auntie Ginny introduced the kids to snapchat. Hunter and Caroline were both big fans.

I'm surprised Caroline didn't freak out. She's not a fan of masks, as in if anyone is wearing a mask she will yell "Noooooooooooo!" and run and hide, but apparently snapchat filters are ok.

Once the kids went to bed we'd watch movies. We watched Zootopia (pretty good for a kids movie), 10 Cloverfield Lane (my favorite movie of the trip), The Witch (meh, it was ok), Deadpool (already saw it but love it). I got my sister-in-law hooked on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix.

My brother and I may have had a little fun with the kid's toys once we got a few drinks in us. This was after the kids went to bed of course.

The heat was pretty brutal. I don't do well in really hot weather. Thank God for central air and AC.

Derek stayed home and I missed him when I was gone. I know, barf barf. It's nice to be home and sleep in my own bed again.

Mail fail

I order my cat litter online since I don't have a car and cat litter is heavy to lug home on the T. It's worked out pretty good so far except for my last delivery. I went to pick up the box and cat litter started pouring out of it. When I opened the box the cap to the cat litter was off and there was litter all over the bottom of the box. At least the litter is still good.

3D Tinder

For a while I would insist that I was just as good a cook as Derek. I conceded victory to Derek a while ago. He's the better cook and I'm the better baker. He gets an idea in his head and then cooks it up. I need a recipe to follow unless we're talking grilled cheese. This is tilapia with white wine, dill, rosemary and thyme. It was good.

The Last Drop was dead on Saturday. It got busier as the night went on but not nearly as busy as usual. There was a woman who took over the jukebox and was picking terrible songs. Kerry and I were waiting for her to finish but she just kept going. I decided to take the passive aggressive approach of standing behind her.

I love these leggings! I think Kerry should put them in the next fashion swap so I can take them.

Late night treat for myself. Can you tell this cupcake is from Whole Foods? Coke glass courtesy of my mother who decided that I needed a Coca Cola glass collection. I don't even drink soda.

Headed over to Cambridge on Sunday. Our original plan was River Gods but they were closed. It seemed like half the bars in Cambridge were closed. We ended up at the People's Republik.

"Russian Communist-themed bar decked out with bombs & propaganda posters & offering casual fare."

Well that is accurate, thank you google for that description.

The quote of the night goes to Derek's friend Kevin with "This song sounds like flannel."

I had a good laugh over this. But can you swipe right or swipe left?

I'm digging this snapchat filter. Just call me lady spider eyes.

Happy 4th everyone! Be safe with fireworks and eat lots of grilled meats.

Busy city bee

I went out a lot this week. I'm sure my wallet is crying. I'll just give you the highlights (and the lowlights)

Bar Louie near Fenway is winning major points with me.

First of all $1 PBR.

It's pretty rare to find beer for a dollar in Boston. Even the PBR is enjoying a PBR. How meta.

I had a good laugh at this one. Well done CMR, whoever you are.

Second of all, $5 burgers with tater tots on Tuesday nights. Keep it up Bar Louie.

We have no plans for the Fourth and I'm ok with that. We both got off work early yesterday so went over to Faneuil Hall.

We went to Paddy O's first and the service was terrible. We were wondering where our waitress was so we could get the check and pay but she was no where to be found. Some time later I saw her sitting at the bar in her non work clothes having a beer. We had no idea that her shift had ended or who our new waiter or waitress was. I was pretty annoyed. I finally caught a manager and asked if we could get our check. I gave 15% instead of 20% for a tip. I'm such a sucker. I shouldn't have even given that much.

Next up was Durgin-Park. Service was much better there.

I think it might be time to dye my hair darker again.

My weather app is terrible. It said nothing about rain and it poured.

The new Government Center T stop does look pretty with the lights. I still think the lights are unnecessary since the T has no money but it's done. Fares went up again July 1. Service will still be terrible I'm sure but hey PRETTY LIGHTS.

We got a little wet. I was so tired last night. I've been staying up too late during the week.

Speaking of tired, I think it's time for a nap. Blogging is tough work.
