I have never read Pride and Prejudice. I know! Someone take my lady parts and revoke my female card. Don't worry because I'm reading it now. I've never heard a woman say a bad word about Pride and Prejudice. I confess I already love Darcy. Is anyone shocked? Not me. It's funny because I feel like I already know the story so well. I've seen many adaptations but it's time to step up and actually read it.
My first Austen book was Sense and Sensibility and loved it. Weird that I read that book first.
And can we just talk about this scene in Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant. Oh my god I love it so much.
When I first watched this scene I was like, this would probably be exactly how I would react. Emma Thompson I want to hug you.
I actually hated P&P the first time I read it (before seeing it on screen). The characters were so infuriating. I didn't realize it was supposed to be funny until my wonderful sister-in-law insisted I give the first hour of the 1995 BBC miniseries a shot.
Now, of course, I'm trying to get over the fact that the Lizzie Bennet Diaries webseries has ended. :(
I've never read this either! Though I have seen Sense and Sensibility and really remember liking it! Maybe it will be on my reading list soon. (I've sucked at reading lately).
I've read all of her novels, she's so great! And I LOVE pretty much every Jane Austen film. Obviously the best is the Pride & Prejudice starring Colin Firth, but Sense & Sensibility is pretty great as well, directed by Ang Lee! (Yes, the same guy who just directed Life of Pi)
My favorite Austen is Persuasion. Definitely recommend!
(And my least favorite Austen is probably Mansfield Park, but the movie they made about it with Johnny Lee Miller that came out a few years ago is pretty great!)
I had no idea that was Ang Lee. He really doesn't stick to one genre. I think he also directed Broke Back Mountain right? Anyways it seems I like the movies he's involved with.
You've totally reminded me to that I need to read and watch S&S all over again! I took a Jane Austen lit class in college and it was THE BEST THING EVER. :)
Happy to have found your blog and looking forward to following along. Cheers!
