A cooking challenge

I admit that I'm a bit of a lazy cook. I prefer quick and easy and don't experiment too much. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy food cooked by others. I love to eat, especially if someone else has done the cooking. If only I could afford a personal chef.

Derek has been encouraging me to be a little more adventurous in the kitchen and I agreed to at least give it a try. The first dish I decided to attempt was a copycat of P.F. Chang's chicken lettuce wraps. I followed the recipe but used less vinegar and didn't add the Sriracha sauce. The sauce came out way too strong. All I could taste was the hoisin sauce and I don't think it needed any vinegar at all. Derek and I still ate it but it wasn't the best. At least I tried right? It would be so much easier if I could just eat pasta for dinner every night.

I'm currently searching for what I'll try next. Derek is probably stocking up on chicken patties just in case it doesn't turn out so well. At least my baking skills are quite good, so cookies for dinner anyone?

  1. If you keep working at that dish and experiment you will eventually make it fantastic...of course you have to enjoy the process. I do find when I try to do something and do not do it well I appreciate when others do it well so much more. The more you cook, the more you will enjoy good food done well. So there is that...

  2. You can do it- I have faith in you! I love http://allrecipes.com/ for new easy-to-follow recipes. I got my chicken stir-fry, meatloaf and crock-pot BBQ chicken recipes all from there.

    Otherwise, tell Derek to cook!

    1. Derek cooks quite a bit and I have to admit that he's a better cook than me although I have no idea how his baking is.

  3. You tried though! That's what matters though! I like doing pasta dishes because honestly, you can't mess it up too much.

  4. I'm also much better at baking than cooking. I did try to make a new dish the other night too, of course I got it off of Pinterest. It was baked spaghetti, and it actually turned out good. Pinterest is always my go to.

  6. Good for you for trying it! It is fun to experiement, especially when you've got willing testers.

I made sausage and sauerkraut for the first time in my life today (heck, I'm only 49!) because my oldest son bought a ton of bratwurst links. I got all thumbs up and must make it again! Good thing because my baking pretty much sucks.
