10,000 steps ain't got nothing on me

I recently purchased a Fitbit Zip. I thought it might be fun to keep track of how much I walk and maybe it will motivate to get moving more. I originally set a goal of 10,000 steps a day as that was the goal suggestion from Fitbit. I really had no idea how much I walked a day so I thought that would be a good start. Turns out I walk much more than that. My average is in the 13,000 steps a day range. Look at me strutting all over the place and I didn't even know it.

Living in the city I probably do walk much more than the average American. I walk to the T, I walk from the T to work, I walk to the super market, I walk to most restaurants and bars and to friend's places. Why do I even have a car? I think my new goal should be 15,000 steps a day.

One of my co-workers also has a Fitbit. She has the one that looks like a slimmer version of a house arrest bracelet. I was beating her the other day in steps so she felt the need to go for a run. When we talk at the office I start walking in place (my fitbit is clipped onto my bra) and she starts waving her arms around (her's is on her wrist) so we look like crazy people but this is a competition! The motivation is working.

If you want to add me as a Fitbit friend so I can show off my walking skills my email is vmstanton@gmail.com

  1. I've been thinking of getting one of these. I use a bicycling app and it's a great motivator.
Good on you for zipping all over! I think people sit too much nowadays, especially in the suburbs where I live. I like to go into the city just to see people walking around!

  2. how funny - i bought one last monday (mine is pink). i knew i got NOWHERE near 10k steps a day: i drive everywhere and work a desk job. my high so far this week is like 7500 steps. my low is 832.

i was off work and lazy.

i got it because it makes faces at me and smiles and stuff. next week i'm going to work on getting 7000 steps every day and work my way up. i have medical issues that kind of make it ridiculous to walk sometimes :/ so i'm going to do what i can.

    1. ha ha I love the faces it makes. I noticed that I walk a lot less on the weekends so I'm trying to improve that. I wish I could run but due to medical issues I can't so I walk. It sucks when you want to be more active but you body is like NO!

  3. I was tempted to get a Fitbit, but I'm afraid I'd end up like David Sedaris in this funny article:
