In memoriam of the Prudential Center food court.

My co-worker Dan came into work the other day and informed us that his roommate had bought baby turtles out of the back of a van in Chinatown. They are tiny and cute and look like this.

not the actual turtles but you get the idea

We are all big fans of the turtles. T has decided that we should get one for the office but Lilly would have to take care of it. We are definitely not getting turtles for the office. We already have a fish that has lived well past his fishy prime. I keep thinking he's going to die any day but he's still going.

In other news you probably won't care about unless you live in Boston or work near me but my food court is going to be closing for a year and a half so they can build an Eataly. I know I have complained that I'm bored with the food court and that it feels like being in prison eating the same food every day but what am I supposed to do? Bring my lunch? Go to the super pricey Star Market? pft.

Eataly should be completed by the end of 2016.

They may take our food court but they'll never take OUR FREEEEEEEEEEEDOM.

  1. I think I read once that those cute little turtles carry disease...may be why you buy them from the back o a van in Chinatown and not at a pet store.

  2. If they were sold out of the back of a van, I wonder if they’re legal. They simply look like painted turtles, which are legal here in States…well, come to think of it, I don’t if that’s true—I just know they were legal when I was a kid. Anyway, a lot of exotic animals are illegal because of the problems they create when people tire of them and release them into the wild, and because of the diseases they carry.

    1. I think they legal to sell as long as they are a certain size (so not babies which these were). But I can't imagine selling pets of a van is on the up and up. I wouldn't trust it.

  3. Hmm... we have a large van. I wouldn't sell turtles from it, but they are pretty cute.
Enjoy your last days of food court prison.

  4. My understanding is that turtles carry salmonella whether you purchase them in a back alley or from a legit pet store. Just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly if you ever decide to handle them.

    1. Ugh yea, I don't think I'd want to touch them. I don't think they are the cleanest pets. I will just look at photos which are salmonella free.

  5. Go to the food trucks! Your building is surrounded by them!
