Florida is the Amazon

The last time I was in Florida was nine years ago. Now I don't know if I wasn't paying attention before or if Disney World is in a bubble but Florida is like the Amazon. From the moment I've arrived I've seen a ton of wildlife - wild turkeys, giant spiders, ticks, snakes, lizards and frogs. 

I'm willing to make friend's with lizards and frogs but I draw the line at snakes, ticks, and wild turkeys. Wild turkeys are huge assholes. Do not mess with them.

Right when we pull into my brother's driveway the roofers working on his house tell us they killed a snake, and in case we didn't believe them they throw it off the roof onto the driveway to show us.

Welcome to Florida!

Later on we find a tick on my brother's dog. I then think I have a tick on my foot but it turns out it's just a piece of dirt.

On a drive to the store we see a wild turkey giving us the evil eye from the side of the road. Keep driving and hope he doesn't have friends.

Before dinner I decide to go outside to explore and find a Jumanji plant.

What is this and will it eat me?

Ready for Florida. Well sort of...

I’m leaving for Florida early Wednesday morning and I haven’t done a single thing to prepare for my trip. Wait, that’s not true, I washed my bathing suit. So that’s one thing down. I still need to do laundry, pack, clean (since my mother is staying over for a night), and actually call my mother back to answer such questions as “can you bring food through security? Call me back and let me know.”

Derek is staying home and taking care of the kitties. He can expect many notes and phone calls as he is new to the whole taking care of cats thing and I'm just slightly over protective about my cats. I’m sure he’ll do fine.

I’m going to miss my boyfriend and the cats while I’m gone but I’m very excited to see my brother and his family, plus it’s Florida! Hello palm trees and beaches and booze being much cheaper.

My brother does live near the beach so Derek expects me to come back with some sort of tan. Do not expect that, I may come back with more freckles but I don’t think anyone will ever use the words "Ginny" and "tan" in the same sentence. Posting here might be a little sporadic until I get back but hey it's vacation.

My mother is staying over Tuesday night so we can get to the airport early in the morning and I know the first thing she's going to say is "you haven't finished unpacking yet?!"

But mom I can't unpack because I need these boxes for my desk and the cats like sleeping on it and I procrastinate.

I think it turned out pretty well if you ask me. Spacious and sturdy and made from items already in my apartment.

Hagrid is dead

I brought Mr. Binx to the vet for his annual checkup and found out that one of the vet's office cats died. Poor Hagrid. He was a cute Persian that liked to drink from the faucet. In an ironic twist of fate Dumbledore is still alive. He is Siamese. 

The college students have started to move in to my neighborhood. I'm scared. I like the way my neighborhood is now.

Now I'm going to eat some Kraft mac and cheese for my "brunch" because I'm very classy and very hungry.
