Marathon Monday recap

I realize it is now Thursday and I'm blogging about Monday but sometimes a girl gets busy with real life.

This year I had a group of friends over for Marathon Monday. I even made mango salsa (which came out really good). We had a few drinks and some light food and then headed over to Cityside for the marathon.

It was a beautiful day out and we got into the bar right away. Cleveland Circle is near the end of the marathon right after everyone has just come off the hills. Basically the runners are ready to be done at this point.

There were a lot more people than this picture let's on. I was trying to get a good angle for the photo but I guess you just have to be there.

Sam Adam's marathon brew. It's actually pretty good.

Koozy man. We talked to him for a bit. He had a pretty amazing backpack made out of koozies. He told us he is going on Shark Tank soon to try to get more funding for his business. He makes koozies with handles and makes the backpacks. I told him I think the backpack would do well. It seemed well made and it's a good idea for a bunch of koozies that you don't know what to do with. His company is called Koozy Designs.

If you've ever wanted to come to Boston, I suggest making the trip for Marathon Monday. It's so much fun.

Marathon Monday recap: bullhorns, flag pants and a drunk bartender.

Yesterday was one of my favorite events in Boston - Marathon Monday. It's also one of the biggest drinking days in Boston. My neighbors were up and yelling and drinking by 8:15 in the morning. Waaaaaay too early. There was a bullhorn involved and pants with an American flag print, and I almost murdered someone.

I waited until noon to start because I can't have a liquid breakfast. I also don't own tacky American flag pants or a bullhorn which must be a requirement for morning drinking.

I've been going out in Washington Square to cheer on runners on for the past few years and continued that tradition this year. And by cheer on I mean drink beer and yell "woooooooooooo!"

We tried to make it across the street to get to Washington Square Tavern but there were so many runners this year we couldn't find a safe way to make it across. The last thing I'd want is to take out a runner because I had to get to a bar.

We ended up at Barcelona where we managed to snag a seat outside. It took us forever to get drinks. I can understand a wait because it's Marathon Monday but I feel like the restaurant did not prepare for the amount of people. It's the Marathon and you're a bar on the marathon route, all hands on deck folks.

One of the bartenders was clearly drunk and the other bartender had to tell him multiple times where he needed to start take drink orders. There were glasses breaking and confusion. We nicked named drunk bartender "the bro". A few winks and sexual innuendos later we finally got our drinks. I think he said something like "I didn't forget about you guys, this is just the tip and it's gonna feel good once it's all in." Ugh.

I should have worn sunblock and did not so now my arms are burnt. I did have sunblock on my face though but my freckles are out in full force.

Despite the look on Derek's face this is water. Marathon drinking requires lots of water.

My co-worker Kerri came out. She will probably hate me today.

I made it until about 6 pm and then I had to go. Too much beer and sun and not enough water. At least I know my limits.

I have a busy week ahead. My friend Monica is visiting and I have to get ready for St. Thomas next week. I am so excited for this vacation. Let's hope my sunburn heals in time.

Dropping Acid (it's not what you think it is) and Mr. Pamuk is Four?

I kept seeing one book pop up over and over again when I was searching for recipes for GERD - Dropping Acid the Reflux Diet Cookbook and Cure. Not only does is have great recipes but it also talks about how acidic our diets are in general due to prepared foods being increasingly acidified to prevent growth of bacteria and to extend shelf life. It makes sense to me. Eat less processed crap!

Work has been pretty busy the past two weeks which is good for my eating smaller meals plan. Keeps me distracted so I'm not tempted to eat too much. I'm getting used to it though and the frequent smaller meals are keeping the hunger pains away. I was very proud of myself today when I only ate half of this giant chicken salad sandwich.

I was talking with a former co-worker about the upcoming Divergent movie via email and he pointed out that Four was Mr. Pamuk on Downton Abbey! How did I not realize this before??

Your fate is much better in Divergent Theo.

The Boston Marathon safety protocols have been revealed. No bags, no strollers no unregistered runners or baggy clothing. There are a few problems here. If it's cold on Marathon Monday people will be wearing jackets. That could be a problem. Also people often have to run across the course to get to the other side of a street. Are you going to get in trouble for that? I don't know but I do it every year so I can get to the spot where I watch and to the bar I like to go to. I guess I'll have to leave my purse at home too which I'm ok with.

It's going to be weird for sure but I still plan on heading out in Brookline like I usually do. We can't let fear rule our lives and I want to be there to support the runners (by drinking beer and cheering of course).
