Damn it Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors. Maybe I should say he was one of my favorite actors. One allegation of misconduct by Anthony Rapp has now begun to snowball with others coming forward. I believe these men are telling the truth. It can't be easy to speak out against one of the Hollywood elite. House of Cards is dropping Kevin Spacey for the last season. As a fan of the show I'm glad they're trying to work out a way to finish the series without him. Claire has always been my favorite anyways. Have Spacey's character killed off camera and work the mystery of who the murderer is into the show. Robin Wright can carry House of Cards.

Now I keep wondering who will be next. I'm sure there are many more stories of misconduct and abuse in Hollywood and it's only a matter of time before they're told.

Now for an update on my sesamoiditis. I gave up the boot after 5 days. My foot was hurting more with the boot. I'm trying to find good comfortable shoes I can wear at work but haven't found the right shoes yet. For now I've been wearing my converse because they don't hurt my foot. My work has been understanding at least. I haven't been going for walks or using the elliptical. I'm resting my foot when I can but it's frustrating. I just want this injury gone but it looks like there's no quick recovery time.

Staying calm

It looks like an offer was made on my grandmother's house and we're going to accept it. It's a little under what we asked but not by much. The house needs some updates so I'm not surprised. A developer made the offer and will most likely tear the house down and build two houses on the lot. It's a bit sad to imagine the house being demolished but the memories are what's important. It doesn't feel the same with my grandmother gone anyways.

On the front steps with my grandmother on Easter in the 80s
I'm doing my best to stay away from Facebook and social media as I realize that it's just causing me stress. I'm still checking in but not as frequently and I'm not clicking on any political related articles. I tend to be an anxious person and my stress level has been through the roof. I'm distracting myself by learning some Spanish and watching Netflix.

I've been watching Gilmore Girls from the beginning in preparation for the reboot on Netflix. If that's not a feel good show I don't know what is.

Next on my Netflix list is The Last Kingdom.

As a child Uhtred witnesses his father being killed by an invading Saxon army. He's kidnapped by the Saxon's and raised like one of their own. Years later his surrogate family is killed and Uhtred sets out to avenge their deaths and take back his homeland from his uncle.

Sounds like some real happy uplifting stuff right? It's a nice escape at least and Alexander Dreymon sure isn't bad to look at.

The True Cost

I've been meaning to watch this documentary on Netflix for a while now and I finally got around to it.

I had no idea that it was this bad! I just bought some some tank tops from Forever 21 too. I never really thought that much about where my clothing came from. If I want something and it's a good price I buy it. I feel like I learned a lot from this documentary, not only about "fast fashion" but about GMO seeds and farming. All of it is quite scary.

The True Cost is on Netflix. If you watch it let me know what you think.

All the tequila, Fuller House and will Leo finally win his Oscar?

I met up with some lady friends Friday night for dinner and a viewing of Magic Mike XXL at the Brattle in Harvard Square. I was tired but rallied for the sake of Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello.

We had dinner at Border Cafe which I hadn't been to in years. It's usually so crowded that I don't even bother but there margaritas are only $6.00! That's cheap and they were good. I ate way too many tortilla chips but when they're hot and fresh I can't resist.

There were two girls sitting at a table next to us and they were sharing one frozen margarita. Who shares a margarita? Not this girl. I admire their willpower.

For contrast here was our table.

Saturday night we ordered Indian food and it was really good. I haven't had Indian in a while because the spices can bother me. Luckily they made my saag paneer very mild. It really hit the spot.

I watched a few episodes of Fuller House. I grew up with Full House so I had to check it out. It's pretty much what I expected. Kimmy Gibbler is still my favorite. I love her bacon and eggs scarf that she rocks in the second episode. The show is corny and cheesy but so was the original.

I also watched Interstellar on Amazon Prime. I definitely got choked up at a few parts. Visually it's stunning and it certainly makes you think. I recommend it. I do not recommend naming your daughter "Murphy".

I did take a break from all this tv watching and did some chores and went for a walk since it was in the mid 50s today. I saw some crocuses in full bloom. Bring on spring baby!

I'll be watching the Oscars tonight in hopes that Leo finally wins his Oscar. I don't know why I care about him winning. I mean the guy is rich and dates supermodels. I'm sure he'll be fine without an Oscar, but I just want to see him win. If he does win he has to make some joke about finally winning or even better the crying Leo meme.

Holidaze

It seems everyone has been having a tough time getting back to the grind this week. After a mild Christmas here in Boston winter has arrived. It was 8 degrees when I woke up yesterday. My gloves are nowhere to be found and I didn't bother to look before it got cold because it hadn't felt like winter yet.

Despite the cold, the sun is shining and we're halfway through the week.

I also have some homemade chicken soup waiting for me at home for dinner. I suppose that's one good thing about the cold. Soup time.

Things I did over the weekend:

+ Took mom to hot pot for the first time with Derek. She liked it!
+ Visited my cousin and baby Kallie. Welcome to the world little lady.
+ Finished the latest season of Wentworth on Netflix.

Frankie and Ferguson are still my favorite characters. Ferguson is just so evil but it makes for good tv.

Me when someone takes the last french fry.

So that's my midweek update. Hope you had a good start to 2016.

Why Supergirl is going to flop and why I was right about Jem and the Holograms and Paranormal Activity 50

Studios should hire me to tell them if a movie will flop. 99.9% of the time I’m right.
Reasons why Jem was going to flop: teens these days don’t care about Jem and don’t know who they are. The previews looked nothing like the original series and was not geared towards the original fans which turned off people that are my age and grew up with the show FLOP.
Reasons why Paranormal activity was going to flop: OMG what number are we on now? This series is dead and has been dead. Should have just gone straight to video. FLOP
Reason why Steve Jobs was going to flop: We’re all Steve Jobs’d out. I’m sure the acting is great, the trailer was just lacking something that would interest the general public. Let’s not forget how Steve Jobs’ widow has been trashing this movie left and right. FLOP
Reasons why Kasbah was going to flop: No one has heard of this movie. Horrible promotion. Unfortunately Bill Murray's last few movies have flopped so his name alone doesn't seem to be a big draw any more.
Although this isn’t a movie, I’m predicting right here that the new Supergirl show will FLOP. I can barely make it through the trailer. It’s boring and corny as hell and looks cheap. It’s a shame because now network tv will be even more weary to produce shows with a female superhero or villain.
Thank God for Netflix releasing Jessica Jones which looks fan-fucking-tastic!

The plan? There is no plan.

Now that we're engaged I've been getting the typical wedding questions. When? Where? Am I invited? The answer is we have no clue and if you have to ask if you're invited you're probably not. All I know is that I don't want the stress of planning a big huge wedding and spending a ton of money on a big huge wedding. We want to keep it simple and have a good time with friends and family. Basically get married and have a party after but like a fun party not one where a crap DJ is like "and now it's time for the chicken dance!". I don't need bridesmaids or to be walked down an isle. I am wearing a pretty white dress though and getting my hair and makeup done because I'm a girl and I want to look nice and I love fancy dresses.

So I guess I lied, there is a little bit of a plan or at least a general idea.

Ok, onto other blog topics.

I have two shows that I'm really into now. One of them I pretty much binged watched this weekend.

Sense8 on Netflix. Eight people around the world suddenly discover they're linked mentally. They can "visit" each other and experience each other's emotions and can even take over each other's bodies (usually, when one needs help). Oh and they're being hunted down. Fair warning, there is quite a bit of sex in this show. Sometimes I think it took away from the story and I'd be like ok, can we get on with it already! It's still worth a watch though. I thought it was really interesting and can't wait for Season 2.

Sun is my favorite character.

I feel like if I was sense8 I would be useless to other people in my cluster. Like what can you do? Um well I'm good at being sarcastic and remembering song lyrics. Let me know if you need me to help you out with Karaoke.

The other show I'm watching is Mr. Robot on USA. A hacker with social anxiety and Christian Slater? Yes please! Apparently there's a big twist and I'm trying hard to avoid internet spoilers.

So if you're a tv addict like me and need some new shows, I would suggest Sense8 and Mr. Robot.

Who doesn't love a good binge watch

I love tv. Give me a couch and some Netflix and I'm a happy girl.

Season 3 of House of Cards is premiering on February 27th which is a Friday so I can binge watch all weekend. Bring on the Underwoods.

Speaking of binge watching, I've been missing Orange is the New Black but have found a new female prison drama to fill the void. I started watching Wentworth this weekend on Netflix and I'm already on season 2. Franky Doyle is pretty much my favorite character on tv right now.

I also love Aussie accents. Maybe I can come down with that weird affliction where you start talking with a different accent? I think it's called foreign accent syndrome. That would be great.

Thank you Netflix. You are the best thing since sliced bread.

Apple, we have a problem

My mother called me around 7 this morning to tell me something very important. Last night she had purchased what she thought were sweet peppers for her salad and instead bought very hot peppers. Her hands were still burning this morning from cutting them. I tried hard not to laugh and told her to try rubbing her hands on some potatoes. Honestly I don't really know what to do in that situation but potatoes seemed like something that might help. She went the milk route which seems like a better idea than the potatoes now that I think about it.

Two of my co-workers have some beef with Apple. This means I do to because we stick together. One brought her daughter's ipad that had a broken off jack to the headphones stuck inside and the other had a laptop that just died and would not turn on. Apple claimed they had three people try to remove the broken headphone jack but we unsuccessful. They suggest she buy a new ipad. One of our other co-workers ended fixing it in about a minute with a pair of tweezers. Come on Apple. Did you even try? I'm guessing not.

My other co-worker was told it would cost $1,200.00 to fix her laptop. Isn't that the cost of a new laptop? I feel like Apple's solution is to just buy a new Apple product. That solution doesn't work so well for people who don't have all this extra money lying around.

I've been sucked into a new series on Netflix instant.

The 100 is like a futuristic Lord of the Flies. After a nuclear apocalypse the humans that survived took refuge in space stations joined together now called the Ark. Three generations later the Ark is dying and so the juvenile prisoners on board are sent to earth to determine if it's habitable. Yes some of the story lines are predictable and there are quite a few injuries that should have caused deaths yet didn't but it's a fun show. What can I say, I'm a sucker for drama, action and sci-fi.

What I didn't do on Halloween

Many people were surprised that I decided to stay in on Halloween. I usually wouldn't pass up a Friday Halloween opportunity but this year I just couldn't muster up the energy. I had a rough week stomach wise. I'm trying to lower the amount of Zantac I take and well there's this lovely thing called acid rebound and it was not fun. Basically things get worse before they get back to normal. My sleep was interrupted and I just felt very blarg. My stomach seems to be doing better now. I hope I can eventually get off Zantac completely and stick with the double dose of PPIs. I don't know how I have any acid in my stomach anymore honestly.

So what did I do on Halloween? Well Derek and I watched the Purge: Anarchy I ended up passing out and missing the last few minutes of the movie. All that poor sleeping caught up with me. We kept looking out the windows to investigate loud noises to make sure the college students weren't destroying anything. It's like I live the Purge every weekend. There's no passing out candy in my neighborhood unfortunately. We're all apartments and there's not too many little kids.

The rest of the weekend has been pretty lazy. I re-watched North and South on Netflix yesterday because um...

I can't help it, I love me some BBC and period costumes and accents.

Today it was sleeting out and I went to the super market to be greeted by Christmas decor and candy canes. Too soon super market. I got adventurous and made these zucchini tots which came out really really good. I doubled the recipe. They were pretty easy to make too. I'm learning in the kitchen. I still would rather be lazy and order takeout but I'm trying!

The weekend is almost over and Bosco stole my spot on the couch but I'm full of zucchini so all is well.

It's wicked windy out here guy

Things I must do that I really don't want to do: straddle my cat to shove an allergy pill down his throat. I tell him it's for his own good so he'll stop scratching his ears but he just looks at me like "WHY?" I found that if I do it before I feed him he's more distracted and the ordeal goes more smoothly.

We've been hit with a fall Nor'easter here in Boston for the past two days. Wait maybe I should make this sound more dire. We're being pounded by a fierce Nor'easter! I wish it was cold enough that it was snow and not rain because then I might have been able to stay home. Instead I got blasted in the face by wind and rain to and from work. Umbrellas are often useless in the city because the buildings create wind tunnels and your umbrella turns inside out. I've passed many umbrella corpses left on the sidewalk.

Derek and I watched a movie on Netflix tonight called Stake Land. It wasn't too bad and it had the younger sister (Danielle Harris) from Wish Upon a Star in it.

I miss 90s era Disney Channel movies. Apparently Danielle does mostly horror movies now. I'm glad she's still acting, I like her. Stake Land had a horrible ending though. It wasn't really an ending, which to me is the worst kind of ending.

Tomorrow is Friday and this Nor'easter should be outta here. Here's to not looking like a soggy mess every day.

Work stress and binge watching Netflix

This past week at work was one of the more stressful ones I've had in a while. I'm training a new assistant which normally I don't mind but trying to keep up with my own workload and training was just too much. On Monday I felt like crying by the end of the day. I'm trying to train and I was constantly getting pulled aside for things that needed to be done ASAP. I found myself saying "sorry I'm just going to do this real quick and you can watch and I'll show you properly when I have the time". Great way to train someone right?

Training a new assistant takes time. It takes about 2-3 months for a new assistant to start to feel comfortable with the job and the first week you sit with them for most of the day. I've been trading off with another assistant for the training but I still stayed late trying to catch up.

Thankfully I have Monday off. I've been watching the Paradise on Netflix instant. I've watched 7 episodes so far. I was invited up to Maine but I just couldn't handle the long drive after this week and Bosco is starting allergy meds again. I'm not going to make Derek shove allergy pills down my cat's throat. I think it was his scented cat litter causing the problems so I switched to unscented. I think he has sensitive skin. I always get the cats with the weird ailments> I had a cat growing up that had asthma. He seems to be doing better though.

So that's my long weekend. Watching Netflix and drugging my cat with allergy meds. Hopefully I'll be ready to face Tuesday back at work.

This is more depressing than a Tori Amos cover band

I went to pick up my car yesterday and was having a little chat with the mechanic and quickly realized that he was hitting one me. He was talking about his house on the Cape (Cape Cod) and his boat and mentioned he was single multiple times. I got to see a photo of the house and boat. He asked what my plans were for the weekend. Just hanging out with my boyfriend who I live with.

I told my mom this story and she said "it seems like a lot of mechanics are lonely". She quickly followed that up with "I don't mean that you're not a pretty girl, you are!" Thanks mom.

Someone may have had too many peach bellinis last night. I'm not going to name names but I'll let you guess who it was.

Oh man it was good. The peach and the champagne combo is not so good for the head in the morning. Anthem in Fanieul Hall makes some great drinks.

I'm recovering on the couch today watching Season 2 of Orange is the New Black. I love this show.

I also love Tori Amos and this quote.

I'm loving the new character Vee. It's interesting seeing how she manipulates people. I'm only on episode 4 so don't spoil anything for me.

Ok time to try to take a nap when there's construction happening outside my house. Fun!

Watching the Fall and I'm thoroughly freaked out.

I've been sucked back into watching shows on Netflix. I've been blowing through House of Cards and decided to take a little break and start watching the Fall.

I love a good mystery/thriller. I especially love to be freaked out by a movie or tv show, except when it's time for bed and I have nightmares. I didn't expect the Fall to freak me out but I was very wrong. I'm weird in that paranormal and alien stuff freaks me out more than serial killers. That is probably not normal.

The Fall is an exception. Ten minutes into the first episode I was thoroughly freaked out and really thankful that I do not live alone. If I watched this back when I lived in my studio I would have had a hard time falling asleep. The cats do not help because if they aren't asleep they look up at every noise and I automatically start to panic. I only slept well because Derek was right there and we have bars on our windows (first floor city living baby!)

The Fall is a crime drama about a senior police office investigating murders in Belfast, Ireland. I think what freaked me out so much is watching the serial killer stalk his next victim. Throughout the whole episode he is stalking this young professional woman and he looks like a completely normal guy. He has a wife and two kids and works as a counselor.

And good news ladies! The actor who is playing the serial killer in the Fall is none other than Jamie Dornan, you future Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Perfect casting. Jamie does some expert creeper stalking in the Fall.

Ladies night with my cousins

I certainly made up for my Friday night in with a night out with my cousins on Saturday.

My cousins Alexis and Lauren made the trip from Waltham to head out with me in Allston. Our original plan was to go to Bon Chon but it was too packed. We'll have to go on a week night when it's not so insane. Our backup plan was Sunset across the street which did not have a wait. I ate a little too much but that's pretty much a given at Sunset. If you can resist a full plate of their spinach artichoke dip on pita chips you need to teach me your secrets.

It was Lauren's first visit to Sunset and I think she enjoyed it.

We then decided to go to Tavern in Square so Alexis could dance and so I could feel really old. We found a good spot by the bar though so it wasn't that bad. It was a nice reminder of why I'm glad I'm not 21 again.

Alexis was clearly not ready for this photo. Oops.

Today I finally made it to season 2 of House of Cards. I'm completely sucked in. I also went to Target to try to find yoga pants and that didn't work out so well. I couldn't find any that I liked. The styles are weird and I feel like I shouldn't be paying $34.00 for yoga pants from Target.

I slept way too much today and now I'm wired. Should be fun trying to get to sleep tonight. I need to work out to try to burn off some of this energy so I can get to sleep and not wake up at 4 a.m. Hopefully daylight savings will help me feel a little more tired.

The cats and I are hatching a plan

Derek and I stayed in on Saturday night which is rare for us but we both needed a night of rest.

What on earth is this Netlfix? So does he actually have magical powers? I'm slightly curious about this movie but I don't think I can watch it sober. Might be one for a movie night with Lil Anne and Fiona.

Definitely did not and will not be watching this. I would recommend watching Sofie's Choice instead unless you are feeling really down, then don't because that movie will make you ball your eyes out.

And Netlifx your best guess is waaaaaaaaaaaay off.

I could eat Chinese Food everyday. I would be very fat but very happy and then very depressed about my lack of self control.

Not sure if the Chinese food gave me heartburn but I was not feeling so hot in the esophagus Saturday night. It's hard to tell if it's something I ate or just nothing at all. I can breathe air and get heartburn.

Laser eye kitty. Bosco headbutted Derek and then curled up in his lap. We are slowly working on making him into a cat person. Good job Bosco.

Window surveillance time. Very exciting weekend for the whole household.

Also I was watching Murder She Wrote and Jin from Lost was on this one episode. One of my favorite games is to find people from Lost on other shows. The prize is satisfaction.

Orange is the New Crack

I've been sucked in to Orange is the New Black like everyone else on the planet. It's so good! I love Red and her crazy red hair and Lorna with her red lipstick and accent.

Why is Laura Pepron ruining my life by not returning next season?

Ginny's Netflix reviews. The only reviews you will ever need.

I watch a ton of Netflix. This is what happens when you don't have cable and Two and a Half Men is on your non cable channels all the time.

Here's what I've been watching

House at the End of the Street: This movie stars Jennifer Lawrence. Need I say more? Ok I probably would have stopped watching this movie if J. Law wasn't in it. It was very predictable and not scary. I was expecting scary. So pass if you don't love Jennifer Lawrence.

The Dictator: Can I write a review if I haven't finished the movie? Yes I can, it's my blog. I have about 20 minutes left. It is no Borat. The few funny moments do not make it work the watch. If you do watch I suggest doing it very drunk, then you might find it mildly entertaining.

Breaking Bad: I'm on the second season and so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm all "come on Walter! You sell that meth!" I weirdly have crushes on Hank, Walter Junior and Jesse. What is wrong with me?! Jesse is a druggie who sleeps with prostitutes! Gross. Hank is middle aged and Walter Junior is in high school. Please confirm or deny my insanity. Skyler makes me want to rip my hair out.

Pretty Little Liars: Still on season one but I'm going through it pretty fast. I put off watching this show for a long time because I thought it would be too young for me but then I saw friends on facebook and twitter singing its praises. Well thank you friends I love it. Ally was/is a major bitch. I mean she blinded a girl! Talk about family programing ABC Family.

There it is. The good the bad and the need to watch while intoxicated.

Sometimes you just need a good tearjerker

I watched meet Joe Black for the first time last night and holy moly I was not ready for the tears. I didn't know much about the movie except that it starred Brad Pitt (hot 90s Brad Pitt mind you) and that he was death. The end of the movie was full on water works for me. Anthony Hopkins saying goodbye to his life, I couldn't handle it.

Sometimes I just need a good tearjerker - let it all out. I may have also shed a tear about how hot Brad Pitt was. I don't know what's going on with his beard right now but it's scaring me. Bring back 90s Brad!

Any other good tearjerkers on netflix right now?
